The Lowry varsity girls basketball team is starting up again, and they’re planning to have a great season. Players on the team are Jillian Albright, Payton Navaren, Caitlyn Cooper, Hayley Hall, Chelsea Herrera, Audrey Snow, Brooklyn Backus, Brooklyn Waller, Kenadee Jeppsen, Tiana Herrera, Alyssa Kuskie, and Hannah Hillyer; with Amaya Herrera as player-manager.

Seniors Albright and Navaren are certain this year will be a great basketball season.

“I’m really excited; I think we’re going to have a really good season this year. We have a lot of good shooters and we’re really fast,” said Albright.

Navaren added to the certainty of a great season with her confidence in her teammates.

“We’re really deep, everybody on our bench can play too, so it should be good this season,” added Navaren.

Coach Chelsea Cabatbat has high expectations for the entire basketball team.

“This year we are really, really deep, . . . we are thirteen players deep, so I have high expectations for all of them. I have high expectations that they all come here every day, and they work hard, and they just make our team the best they can. I really look forward to my seniors being great leaders . . . [and] taking the underclassmen under their wing and showing them what we’re all about,” stated Cababat.

Sophomore Alyssa Kuskie plans on making improvements to her play style.

“I plan to improve my defense this year and just become a better player from playing on the varsity team,” said Kuskie.

Despite losing graduating athletes from last year, Navaren is confident they will still have a good season.

“Last year was definitely an awesome season. We had some great players but I think this year we have great players as well, so I think we’re going to be good this year,” said Navaren.

Their first game will be in Reno on December 3 at 7:30 p.m.
