The Lowry girls are tied for third with Fernley with a record of 5-2 after this weekend’s tough loss.
“We lost 43-67, and I think we need to work on being more comfortable when the ball is in our hands and getting rebounds both offensively and defensively,” said Julisa Garcia. “We can beat them at home if we take our open shots, drive to the basket, and play our game instead of playing their game.”
Teamwork is one of the most important aspects when playing a sport.
“We need to work on our defense and stay together as a team in order to beat Fallon next time,” said Victoria Tirado.
The most important thing is to learn from your mistakes, and that’s what the girls will do.
“The game showed our weaknesses. We went into the game scared and as the underdogs, which we weren’t,” said Adia Bengochea. “Our defense needs a lot of work, and our communication on the court needs to improve immensely. Next time we’ll be on our home court, and we’ll go back to our original help defense and focus more on the whole team, other than just their starting five.”
The girls are ready to face Fallon again in a few weeks.
“We definitely didn’t do as well as we wanted to. In the first quarter, we held them by two points, and then by half, we were down by a lot. It’s difficult for us to catch back up to a team when we’re down by so many points, but we did play better in the second half. I think that we have the potential to beat Fallon,” said Rachel Garrison. “Last night we were very hesitant, and we did not play our own game. If we run the floor and play as we practice, we definitely can beat them at home.”
The girls’ next game is at home on January 18 against Fernley.
