Lowry’s golf team has had many successful seasons in recent years and was considered the most dominant team in the league winning state championships back-to-back-to-back. Unfortunately, the team was plagued by graduation and now has the youngest team in the league. The team consists almost entirely of Sophomores. Nonetheless, they are doing very well for themselves and are showing others that they are a team not to take lightly.

They currently are sitting in fourth place in the league where they have pretty much remained for the the entirety of the season. In the upcoming weeks, the team hopes to place in the top three in order to make it to the state tournament as a team.

Sophomore Peyton Capellen thought the team performed very well and had the potential to go to state.

“We placed fourth days, we beat Truckee by 3 strokes the first day and beat them by a lot more than 3 strokes the second day. That’s what really sealed our position in fourth,” said Capellen.

Capellen had some pretty good scores but hopes to improve them a bit more by the next tournament.

“On the first day I shot a 96 and on the second day I shot a 95 which is about average for myself so I think I did alright. The weather was really good so everyone had some pretty nice scores,” said Capellen.

Dylan Patterson, another sophomore, also played in the tournament.

“We qualified as fourth both days, we’ve had that spot most of the season, we went into fifth last week but got fourth back this week. We need to place third or higher in the next two tournaments to go state but I think we are doing pretty good for a young team,” said Patterson.

Patterson was also confident in his game over the two days.

“I felt like I did pretty good, I shot a second within the team on Wednesday and fourth on Thursday with scores of 94 and 102,” said Capellen.

Zane Fifield took first within the team on Wednesday in Elko, while Steven Bosch took first on Thursday in Spring Creek.

Peyton Capellen, Steven Bosch, Zane Fifield, Dylan Patterson, J.W. McDade, and Dalton Irons will travel to Edgewood Golf Course Thursday, May 5, to earn themselves a spot in the state tournament.
