JV Boys ready for next step

This past weekend the JV boys finished off a great season with two losses. On Friday, the boys played against the refs rather than Spring Creek and lost by 8 in a final of 49-37. On Saturday against rival, Elko, they couldn’t quite keep it together on the floor, and lost by 18. Before going into the last two games, the Bucks had only one loss to Fallon.

“We had a great season, but it wasn’t the ending to the season we were looking for. I was hoping to come home with two more wins under our belt, but things happened and the boys weren’t playing their best.” said coach Grant Beatty.

In league, the team went 13-3. The Bucks averaged 43.8 points per game and made a total of 920 points this season, with leading scorer, Junior, Brody Goucher (199) followed by Sophomores Jed Teichert (148) and Brady Lange (147). Over the course of the season, the boys continued to show teamwork and consistency of hard work, playing their hardest until the final buzzer of every game.

“I learned a lot of new things this season. We lost to Fallon at the first matchup, and we prepared for the next time we saw them and got the win,” said team captain Dominic Diaz.

Many things were learned along the way.

“I learned that with hard work and determination good things will happen. I plan on working on fundamentals and going to some camps to continue to get better,” said sophomore forward Jacob Hernandez.

Beatty and the boys are already looking forward to next year, and are planning on working on skills and fundamentals over the summer to continue the successful basketball program Lowry has.

“These boys have a lot of talent, I’m excited to see the things they accomplish in the future. They all work hard, and with hard work, great things will come their way,” said Beatty.
