The Leadership class is always finding new ways to give back to any community.
Whether that community is local or for an organization in another state. This year, it was a PenniesForPatients fundraiser for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society from March 4-22.
“We raise money every year for a charity, sometimes it is someone local who is in need, other times we find an organization to support,” said Leadership Advisor Mrs. Tanya Grady. “The money will be sent to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society for use in research.”
Grady mentioned that one of the main offices in California reached out to them about the opportunity to spread awareness of blood cancers.
The amount of money that was raised surpassed the amount that was expected.
“I am very excited about the amount of money we raised; almost $800. All of the money has been deposited into our Leadership account. We will then have a check prepared by LHS and send it off,” said Grady.
Approximately every three minutes, one person in the United States is diagnosed with blood cancer. (lls.org) The fact that the Leadership stepped up to the challenge to raise awareness of a problem this distressing says a lot about the people involved.
