Florida is moving a bill forward that would allow anyone to carry a gun on a school campus with a concealed-carry permit. Nevada legislature is also considering the bill, but currently, any weapons on campus are illegal.
Putting weapons into students’ hands and then allowing them to carry them on school campuses could be one of the stupidest things a state could allow. If anyone thinks that putting weapons into the hands of thousands of immature teenagers is a good idea, they should be put in an insane asylum and locked away. Nothing can really prevent a school shooting from happening because if someone has made up his or her mind to hide a gun, walk up to a school and start shooting, then he or she is going to do it. Having other students with guns could just create a situation where twice as many people are hurt in the crossfire and two guns means twice the amount of bullets and more likely injury or death.
Teachers who have gone through firearm classes and have learned how to use them properly should be the only people besides law enforcement who can have guns on school property. If teachers did get permission to carry a firearm then they would have to keep them on their person at all times and not let the students know they have them.
Parents and guardians everywhere trust schools to keep their children safe and letting anyone who has taken a week long class stroll up to a school with a weapon is idiotic. Letting students on college campuses in Nevada carry a weapon could lead to accidental shootings, anyone could also walk behind the student and grab the weapon from their holster and then use it. Young adults from age 18 to at least 21 should not be able to carry a weapon on school property, there are just too many situations that could end badly with a firearm present.
In more recent news, on March 18 a bill was sent to the Nevada Assembly floor that, if passed, would allow college students and adults with a carry-conceal permit to take their firearms onto college campuses however the bill no longer admits weapons onto day cares or any other public schools. The bill is expected to pass the Nevada Assembly and if it does then it will go on to the Senate where it will be signed into law or thrown out.
I’m all for gun rights, but is introducing even more firearms to elementary schools, colleges, and high schools really the best solution to stop psychopaths who enjoy seeing other people in pain?
