Lowry Varsity boys come back from going to state last season to almost losing to Sparks this season. It was a close game against Sparks pulling out a win by four points, on Tuesday, January 6.
The boys had a good lead most of the game but lost it as they went into the second half, yet they still pulled off a 58-54 win.
“We played ok against Sparks, we gave up a lead late but basically we battled pretty hard and Sparks is usually a pretty tough game to play,” said coach Chad Peters.
The game on Tuesday gave the team some ideas of what to work on in preparation for their games later that week.
“In practice, we’ve been learning how to play against a 2-3 zone a little better because most the teams we’ve been playing run a 2-3 zone and we’re trying to work on what we can do against that,” said Peters.
That preparation paid off on January 16 and 17 against Fernley and Fallon. The boys beat Fernley Friday, 63-51, and Fallon Saturday, 44-40.
“We played really smart in our games on Friday and Saturday and we’ve won our last four road games in a row which is huge. So overall it was a good weekend to work on stuff and then to get those wins against Fernley and Fallon were huge for us and to go into the Elko game 6-0, we’re very happy,” said Peters.
