On the weekend of December 8 and 9, Winnemucca hosted its annual Cody Louk Wrestling tournament, where the team finished in second place.

“The only team that beat us was Spanish Springs. They’re tough, but I think if we keep working at it, we can be everything that they are,” said coach Brant Corak.

Despite the stiff competition, many Lowry Athletes placed in their divisions. Isaac Mori placed 5th in the 106 class. In the 120 weight division, Taylor Corak scored 3rd, and Caden Ricci placed 6th. Matthew Souza, in the 126 division, placed 2nd. Placing 5th in the 132 class, Cade Bell. Bryan Day scored 2rd in the 138 weight class. In the 170 division, Anthony Peterson placed 4th, and Caleb Sanchez placed 5th. Placing 6th in the 183 weight class, Caleb Hinkle. Dominic Hill placed 6th in the 195 class.

“The tournament was a tough tournament,” Corak said. “We used to have a few more out-of-state schools come. They didn’t make it this year, but even without them, it was a top-level tournament.”

The team also plans for improvement.

“Our sprawls need to be better, and our top work needs to be better,” said Corak. “We’re a work in progress. We’re just trying to get better every single day at practice.”
