The seniors kicked off their last Homecoming week with the traditional vandalization of the W on Winnemucca Mountain. As the sun rose on Monday the originally pink W was half blue half yellow.

Monday, “The Goonies”, dress-up was tourist day. Students dressed up mostly wearing Hawaiian shirts socks and sandals.

“My favorite dress-up day was tourist day because everyone looked so touristy and it was just hilarious with what the students came up with. The dress-up days were honestly my favorite part of homecoming week. They were very creative and pretty easy to dress up to and I just really enjoyed all of them,” said Hannah Havens.

The day started off with a rambunctious pep assembly. Class officers created a video to show the students of all the exciting upcoming activities throughout the week. The dance team put on a performance and the homecoming nominees Kenadee Jeppsen, Jed Teichert, Brooklyn Waller, Dillon Maesterjuan, Madison Montero, and Jacob Hernandez were recognized. After that coach Todd Milton of the girl’s golf team introduced his players.

“Although we are a small team with only seven players we have lots of talent and have our sights set on the state tournament,” said Milton.

The boy’s and girls’ soccer teams were also introduced during the assembly. The cross country team was also recognized and teammate Joe Gildone had some news to announce about two of his teammates.

“I would just like to recognize Rebecca Kuskie for breaking the Lowry girls cross country all-time 5k record and Will Kracaw who broke the Lowry boys sophomore all-time 5k record,” said Gildone.

To round out the assembly Mrs. Topholm announced the homecoming Grand Marshall, Courtney Rorex a teacher who has been at Lowry for 25 years.

Monday night held the parade which started at the Bowling Alley and ended at the football field. There were lots of participants in the parade including, the Art Club, Drama, the band, sports teams, and many more. Directly after the parade students flooded the football field for Powder Puff Football. You can read about the game on page 15. With the sound of the final buzzer, the activities of Monday came to an end.

Seniors started Tuesday earlier than most with Senior Sunrise. Seniors sat on the track at 5:45 a.m. wrapped up in blankets, eating donuts, and drinking hot chocolate. Tuesday’s movie theme was “Pretty in Pink” and the halls of Lowry were filled with students in pink. A Miracle Minute was held during the 4th period in support of the Meyers family. Tuesday night held the He-Man tournament. You can read about it on page 16.

On Wednesday, students battled out ‘Mathletes vs. Athletes’ in the spirit of ‘The Breakfast Club’.

“I liked ‘Mathletes vs Athletes’ day because I had a game and all I needed to wear was my jersey,” said Donovan Swanson.

JV and varsity boy’s soccer played South Tahoe later that night and took a tough loss. Girls soccer was on the road and fell 6-0. Volleyball duked it out with Fernley and won the match 3-1.

Thursday’s throwback day came from the movie “Back to the Future” where kids were seen wearing clothes from past decades.

“Thursday was my favorite dress-up day, Throwback day because I think it would be neat to live in the 70s to 80s era,” said Aleiya Stevens.

Girl’s golf held their home tournament and placed second following Elko. Volleyball was on the road and defeated Fallon. Freshman football was at home and lost to Elko.

Friday, students wore blue and gold in support of their athletics, in honor of the movie ‘Rudy’. The final assembly was also held on Friday where the rest of the sports teams were introduced and cheer performed.

“My favorite part of homecoming week was Friday’s assembly because my cheer team and I tore it up,” said Stevens.

That night the Bucks put up a great fight in the game against Elko but took a tough loss. Halftime of the game the Grand Marshall and royalty presentation. It began with Kenadee Miller carrying the American flag, Megan Miller carrying the Nevada flag, and Julianne Montero carrying the Lowry flag on horseback. Then Lowry’s 2016 homecoming Grand Marshall, Courtney Rorex, was presented as she rode onto the field in a classic convertible BMW.

The candidates were presented next, also riding in BMWs. The first to go across the field were Dillon Maestrejuan and Brooklyn Waller.
