Like other sports, JV baseball is going through coaching changes. Coach Dee Mendez was a varsity assistant last year and will move to JV with coach Andy Harmon. Coach Harmon is also a teacher at French Ford Middle School. Lowry graduate Brian Shettler will also assist with the team.
With the new coaches come a crop of new players, and a few returners.
“I think this baseball season will be a very interesting season. We have a very talented coaching staff and tons of potential with our players,” Gratian Dawson. “There are some things we need to work on, and it is a work in progress, but it will be neat to watch us progress through our years playing Lowry baseball.”
The team took to the field on March 4 when they hosted Spring Creek for a scrimmage, and it went well for the young Bucks.
“The 2017 JV baseball season will be a fun and huge learning year. We have a young, talented team that wants to learn and strive to get better every day, so with that, I think we will have a successful year,” said coach Mendez.
Sophomore Jimmy Rackely is looking forward to the new season.
“I feel like we are a young team and we have a lot to learn, but I believe that we will do good things this year and grow a lot in the upcoming years, especially under these new coaches, Harmon, Shettler, and Mendez,” said Rackley.
The team travels to Yerington to open the season on Friday.
