A week of fun-filled events began Monday night with the annual Powderpuff game.
As usual, the Seniors-Freshmen squared off against the Juniors-Sophomores. The seniors have not lost a Powderpuff game in their high school careers and that streak would not be ended Monday night as the Seniors-Freshmen went on to win the game by a final score of 14-0.
The Seniors-Freshmen got on to the scoreboard quickly, scoring two touchdowns in the first ten minutes of the game. The Juniors-Sophomores had trouble stopping the running duo of Shelby McKinnon and Auri Criddle and at the same time could not seem to get much going on offense. After that though, the game turned into a defensive battle and the teams struggled to get up and down the field and stayed in the same half of the field until the final seconds when the Seniors-Freshmen almost went up another touchdown after a big run by Alyssa Dendary.
At halftime, after the all-male cheer team performed, the Powderpuff homecoming royalty was announced. The “king” candidates were Jewel Lapira, Payton Naveran, and Marissa Mendoza. The “queen” candidates were Mickey Donovan, Caleb Logan, and Cameron Okuma. Jewel Lapira and Cameron Okuma were crowned Powderpuff King and Queen and received Burger King Crowns to signify their titles.
Coach of the Juniors-Sophomore team, Jacob Hernandez, had a few words to say after the intense game.
“We lost, but our team played hard and gave them a good game. All in all, it was fun. Go, Lowry,” said coach Hernandez.
