Recently members of SkillsUSA traveled to Reno and competed in events at their state conference. Several came up with awards.
Skills USA advisor, Mr. Andrew Meyer was impressed with Bradley Schmidt’s performance.
Via email, Myer said, “Bradley Schmidt will be accepting the honor of going to nationals in welding sculpture, pretty awesome.”
Other results:
Silver medal – Bradley Schmidt (Welding Sculpture)
Silver medal – Sterling Dennis (Carpentry)
Silver medal – Erik Sigurdson (Electrical Construction Wiring)
Silver medal – Philip Keinholz (Power Equipment Technology)
Bronze medal – Victor Diaz (Electrical Construction Wiring)
Schmidt’s handmade metal sculpture is called “The Big Barrel”. It’s a tank based on an A1-Abrams and took 5-6 months of the school year with a little more than 72 hours to build.
Schmidt is in his fourth year of welding.
“And welding just happens to be high in demand in industrial jobs too, so I could make a pretty penny doing my passion,” said Schmidt.
