Lowry’s baseball team’s season is off to a rough start. They are currently 5-14 overall. Last weekend the Buckaroos hosted Fallon Greenwave for a three-game series and their luck didn’t change.
On Friday, April 10, the boys lost 8-4. Then on Saturday, April 11, they had another loss, 9-1. Later that day they had yet another loss, 27-6. Despite their losses, every game helps a team improve and that is exactly what Lowry baseball is doing.
“We had a couple of good and bad spots in the games this weekend we did good at hitting and fielding the ball at some points and had some trouble doing those things too,” said Sterling Dennis. “We need to put together a good full game where we can do everything good and then we will learn from that and try and do that the rest of the season.”
Brian Shettler echoed those sentiments.
“We did not have any very strong points throughout the entire weekend,” said Shettler. “We had times when we had great pitch, defense, and offense, but we could not keep any one area very strong. The weakest point of our game this weekend was our mindset and intensity we didn’t play a complete thought the weekend.”
However, Shettler is hopeful the team can turn its fortunes around.
“My expectations for the remainder of the season is to play the rest of the series with the complete game with our team working together with intensity and end on a good run,” said Shettler.
Coach Ron Espinola thinks the team needs consistency.
“There have been flashes of brilliance of how we can actually play,” said Espinola. “Unfortunately, we have been too inconsistent and we need to fix that to compete.”
“Our season has been fun,” said Dennis. “My expectations are our team will get better because there is always room for improvement and to have fun and do the best we can the rest of the year.”
