The girl who stands out on the court, field, in class, and in the fashion game at Lowry, Madison Montero, has been chosen as the March Student-Athlete of the Issue.
Montero already has her big plans set after high school; she wants to live in Los Angeles while pursuing her dream.
“After high school, I would like to play volleyball or run track for a school in Los Angeles while pursuing my lifelong dream of becoming a stunt double,” said Montero.
Montero has already applied to multiple colleges in Los Angeles, but she has yet to decide on which one she will attend. She would also like to major in business entrepreneurship.
Besides being a stunt double, Montero also loves flying, cooking, and hanging out with her sister Juge (Julianne). But there are only very few things Montero enjoys more than sports and her sister.
“There are very few things in life that I enjoy more than playing volleyball, especially when I get to play with Juge. When it comes to track, I love pole vaulting and working to improve my personal records at every meet. Plus my teammates are the best; they always push me to run faster and jump higher,” said Montero.
Montero plays volleyball and runs and jumps in track. She has been playing competitive volleyball for six years now and has played club volleyball for three years, and has been doing track for six years as well. Montero says she likes both these sports, but volleyball will always be her favorite. Montero is also in National Honor Society, Leadership, and plays the snare drum for the band, while also volunteering a lot at the animal shelter.
Last year, Montero placed 4th in the 100m dash at State for track, and the year before she placed 6th in the 200m dash at State. Also, every year her relay teams have placed either 5th or 6th at State. Each year, Montero has made it to state in three events and was also awarded sprinter of the year by the coaches last year.
However, Montero says she could not have had any better of a last volleyball season and ended the season in a perfect way.
“I feel like I could not have had a better last season. I was able to play to my full potential alongside teammates who have been there throughout my entire volleyball career. I wish I could bring them all to college with me, especially Juge. Making Second Team All-State was the perfect way to end the season,” said Montero.
Although all these high school memories will always be there and never leave, so will the memories of her sisters, cousins, and herself during their childhood when they would embark on epic adventures on the ranch.
