Most people know Mikeas Somers or Micah. Micah is a three-sport athlete and is a senior. He plays football, throws for track, and wrestles. This year he placed second in state for wrestling. Micah has always been a part of sports since he was young.
“All my siblings played sports and I wanted to do it. Also, I have always seen people on TV do it,” said Somers.
Micah was the starting center for Lowry’s varsity football team this year.
Although the football team didn’t do well this year Micah said he was happy with the way his career ended.
“I wouldn’t have wanted to play football with anyone else this year,” said Somers.
“Football is my favorite sport because I get to hit people and it is a team sport,” Somers continued.
Micah will be graduating on June 9 this year.
“I am planning on going to college after I graduate,” said Somers. Micah has many options for college but he already knows what he is going to do. He continued, “I am going to UNR and I am going to major in education so I can become a math teacher.”
Although sports have had many impacts on Micah’s life he is not going to college to play sports. “I need to focus on my studies while I am in college,” said Somers.
Looking back at his sports career at Lowry he definitely had his accomplishments. “My greatest moment in sports was when I took second at state this year for wrestling,” said Somers.
Micah, while in school, changed in a major way.
“I wanted to lose weight and that’s exactly what I did. I lost a total of 90 pounds,” added Somers.
Aside from sports Micah has a very supportive family.
“I wouldn’t be where I am today if my family didn’t go to all of my sports and extracurricular activities. Also, they do pay for my stuff,” added Somers.
