Ariel Gallardo-Gutierrez was selected for this week’s Student-Athlete of the Week by coach Steve Swanson for his hard work, determination, and tough defense in the boys’ away game at Sparks last Saturday. His teammates refer to him by his nickname, Immortal.
“I would like to thank my teammates, the coach, and all the supporters that came, and even though it was a tough fight we still kept going,” said Gallardo-Guitierrez when he was informed of his selection for Student-Athlete of the Week.
He joined the varsity boy’s soccer team last year as a junior. This year he joins Jesus Escobedo and Jordan Diaz as team captains.
Coach Swanson was very impressed with Gallardo-Guitierrez’s performance in the three homecoming games, especially at Sparks.
“Immortal truly played like a warrior against Sparks on Saturday. His focus, intensity, resolve, and effort were an inspiration to all of his teammates and a credit to him as a player,” said Swanson.
Gallardo-Gutierrez goes with the rest of the varsity boy’s soccer team to play against Churchill County in Fallon, on Saturday at noon.
