To be on the swim team means that you have to be committed to complete every set of the warm-up, workout, and cool down with the intensity and effort dictated by the coach. One athlete who has outdone himself and improved no matter what the cost is freshman Hunter Lewis.
Coach Shelby Ruff has chosen him as the Student-Athlete of the Week because of these efforts.
“I want to make Hunter Lewis our athlete of the week because he competed in 4 out of 5 events at last weekend’s Aqua 5 meet as a freshman and did well in all of them,” said Ruff. “Hunter consistently pushes himself to be his best at practice, no matter what the set is, and is a leader in his lane.”
Lewis also mentioned how he felt about being chosen.
“I feel good about this. I feel like I’ve tried pretty hard for it,” said Lewis.
Ruff’s hopes for the season are to maintain good technique and improve stroke work.
“This season, our goals are to get everyone competing in a secondary stroke and to continue to have a strong showing at both the Regional and State meets,” said Ruff. “Based on Saturday, I’d say we’re off to a good start by improving our technique and endurance from last season.”
