This week’s Student-Athlete of the Week is Kelsey Cooper, who was selected by coach Larry Renteria of the girls’ freshman basketball team.
Renteria explained how Cooper is a huge asset to the team and is reliable as a team player.
“Cooper has been an instrumental player for the team this year. Being a freshman, we all make mistakes. When Ms. Cooper makes a mistake, she owns it and plays hard to make up for that mistake. She leads the team in steals and assists and has served as a quiet role model for the team. When the team is struggling, Kelsey is a player that I can turn to, and she will deliver,” said Renteria.
The girls’ freshman basketball teams are undefeated in league this season, and Cooper shared her thoughts on the season so far.
“I think the season is going great. We have improved as a team and individuals. Even though we have some bad days, it hasn’t stopped us from working hard to become better athletes,” said Cooper.
Also, Cooper gave her thoughts on the progress of the team so far this season.
“Overall, we have progressed at working together as a team, but could still use some work; but other than that, we have had a great season so far,” said Cooper.
The freshman girls play again at home against Elko on February 7.
