This week’s Student-Athlete of the Week is Sierra Maestrejuan, who was chosen by the girls’ varsity basketball coach, Melanie Thurmond.
Sierra is a senior leader who makes a huge impact on the team and will be greatly missed.
“Sierra is our senior leader,” said Thurmond. “No matter what stats she has for us during the game, she keeps everyone together and controls the game. She is a great scorer, rebounder, and overall player. I know the girls look up to her, and she will be greatly missed.”
Sierra is different from the rest of her teammates.
“Sierra shows up to every practice and is always game-ready,” said Thurmond. “She competes every play of every possession.”
Sierra plans to make it to regionals and give her senior season a good finale.
“Obviously, we’re going into regionals, and I hope to go to State and win the State Championship,” said Maestrejuan.
Sierra enjoys playing basketball a lot and has improved her handling skills this year.
“I enjoy playing in front of our stands at home and playing with all my teammates,” said Maestrejuan. “I have improved a lot on ball handling and overall confidence in myself.”
