Last week, swim coach Shelby Ruff selected Ashton Kalkoske and Adaya Goldblatt as the Student-Athletes of the Week. Kalkoske and Goldblatt have shown extreme excellence in their season so far.

“The season is going well as we near the finish,” said Ruff. “The entire men’s team has posted regional qualifying times for every event in which they’ve competed this season,” said Ruff.

The two are getting better and better with every meet they compete in.

“At this point in the season, we’re just deciding which events to swim at regionals and putting finishing touches on our strokes. Successful athletes are always improving their technique and conditioning,” said Ruff. “As a team, what we really need are bigger numbers. Hopefully, we can recruit more swimmers for the city teams this summer and next year’s Lowry team.”

Coach Ruff anticipates Kalkoske and Goldblatt to perform very well.

“As noted, I anticipate having a strong showing at regionals, particularly in the distance events. The men’s relays are all in a position to make state if they swim well and at least two individuals,” said Ruff.

Coach Ruff hopes that the team gets a good experience and learns new tips to perform better.

“This summer, a weekend-long swim camp is going to be held for athletes of all ages and experience levels, hosted by professional swim trainers. It’s going to be a really exciting event, and I’m hoping it will help develop our current athletes and attract new swimmers,” said Ruff.
