It is finally spring and that can only mean one thing, baseball season is upon us. The start of the baseball season also means the start of fantasy baseball leagues. This year, as there always is, there are plenty of players who should be picked up or dropped that many managers don’t realize.
One player who has been all the talk because of his seven home runs in his first six games is Trevor Story.
Many managers will rush to add Story but in reality, he’s only a good short-term addition. While Story is on pace for a great year, he is not likely to stay consistent given his history of average numbers and a career-high of 20 home runs in one season.
One player for managers to keep an eye on is shortstop Trea Turner. He is currently playing for the Nationals’ AAA affiliate but has batted .667 with two stolen bases in his first four games. Danny Espinosa, the Nats’ current shortstop has been playing good defense but has really struggled at the plate and it may not be long before Turner begins to see some time in the Bigs.
Another player is Kevin Gausman, he began the season on the DL for the Orioles but is expected to return by early May. Last season Gausman posted more than eight strikeouts per nine innings. He will also be returning to an already hot Orioles lineup. Gausman may be a bit of a risk due to the fact he is coming off an injury but it could very well pay off if he returns to last season’s form.
A player that has been off to quite the start this year is Michael Conforto. He may not stay as hot as he is now because this is his second season in the bigs, but as of now, he has been hitting the ball well. Conforto, who played at Oregon State which already makes him a good pick-up, has a current OBP of .422. If he continues to get on base, good things will happen for him.
This season, like all of them, is looking to be yet another good baseball season. This article could be of no help because one cannot predict baseball, it just can’t happen. But this article could give some managers an edge to win their league.
