Special to The Brand

The Humboldt County Library is proud to present several activities geared towards youth

. The library offers various book clubs for all school-aged youth. Several of the books we are reading were nominated for the Nevada Young Readers Award. Join us for a lively discussion of the various books.

The Humboldt County Library also offers STEM programs. The STEM programs include Lego Club, Coding Club, Snap Circuits Club, and 3D Printing Club.

Lego Club is offered to youth of all ages. Lego Club is designed to encourage engineering skills, creative thinking, and story creation. We construct various things out of Legos.

During Coding Club we play various games to teach youth how to program. Learning to program is like learning the language that computers speak. Individuals interested in video game creation, the use of Arduino, or robots should join us to learn how to program them. We offer this club for youth 8-12. We also offer a more advanced version of this club for teens aged 13-18. Teens will be programming Arduino from day 1.

Snap Circuits Club is designed to teach youth all about electricity. Where does it come from? How do I use electricity? We will learn simple electricity concepts that will come in handy for the rest of our lives. We play games based on electrical knowledge, design crafts requiring circuits, and build advanced circuits using the simple-to-use Snap Circuits Kits. We offer this club for youth aged 8-12. We also offer a more advanced version of this club for teens aged 13-18 using an advanced circuit kit.

3D Printing Club is geared toward individuals interested in 3D Modeling. We use several programs to design and print our 3D models. We have a 3D printer that will print in dual color on a print surface that is close to a foot by a foot by a foot. We are interested in teaching youth how to operate these programs. Join us while we design 3D Models from the ground up. This club is offered to youth aged 8-12. A teen version of this club is also offered for youth aged 13-18.

Teen Advisory Board is for teens who are interested in having a voice in what library activities are offered for teens. If you are a teen and have an awesome teen program idea or want to be more involved at the library please join our TAB group so that your voice can be heard. TAB is currently preparing for their upcoming Poetry Slam and working on their TeenZine.

Don’t miss your opportunity to see Santa Claus at the Humboldt County Library on December 22.
