The varsity baseball team lost 11-5 to South Tahoe on March 8, following it up with a 2-1 win and 11-7 loss the next day.
“They were pretty good, but we don’t think they were better than us,” said pitcher Levi Christopherson.
Despite the disheartening turnout, the team’s defense did not strike out.
“We played really well on defense,” said Christopherson.
After playing the first series of the season, the team has their sights set on improvement.
“The season is starting off better than I thought,” said Christopherson. “We still have a lot of work to do. We’re going to work on pickoffs because they stole a lot of bases. Our pitching was also off. We’re focusing on swinging the bat a lot more.”
Although their hit count was comparable to South Tahoe’s, the boys struggled to bring as many runs home as their opponent. They also had difficulty beginning the games. In their last game, the team didn’t score until they brought their first three points in the fifth inning. In the first and last games, South Tahoe was able to bring in 3-4 runs in the first inning.
Christopherson still has high expectations for accomplishment.
“I think the team will get to the playoffs at least,” said Christopherson.
Varsity baseball’s next home games are against Fernley on March 29.
