Varsity softball looks forward to a successful season

Last season the varsity softball team fell in the playoffs to Churchill County; this year the team has aspirations to make the playoffs again and hopes to advance to the state tournament.

“I think we will able to make playoffs this year,” said Mckenna Jones. “We are getting stronger, I think we have the potential to make it to state if we keep improving like we are.”

Her teammate Alanna Miller, a junior, agreed saying the team is young but works well together. She also said that she thinks they will make it pretty far.

Some changes have been made between last season and this season to help improve.

“This year we are a young team, we only have two seniors, and all of us can play more than one or two positions so we can do more defensively,” said Jones.

Miller said that the team has, “worked harder on not giving up any runs.”

Jones said that her goals for the season are, “I want to be the pitcher my team can always count on. For the team, I hope we can become stronger and make it to state.”

Both Jones and Miller agree that the toughest competition will be Fallon and Fernley but they expect the team to play well against them.

The varsity softball team opens its season at home against Spring Creek on Friday and Saturday, March 18 and 19 3 p.m. on Friday and 11 a.m. on Saturday.

This season’s roster is: Bailey Sapien, Sylvie Prokasky, Mckenna Jones, Ashlee Barron, Sydney Connors, Caitlynn Cooper, Amaya Hererra, Alanna Miller, Tiana Hererra, Kyllie Sappington, Kaity Sample and Alyssa Kuskie.
