Where are they going?

The year ends as do the careers of many high school athletes. Many athletes will never play another game in their lives, but a select few will continue the love and passion they have for the game in college.

Luis “Primo” Cardenas will be attending Eastern Oregon University in La Grande, Oregon to play football. During the 2014 season, Primo had 48 total tackles and averaged 4.4 per game.

Beau Billingsley is a two-sport athlete and although he is a terrific football player he has chosen to follow in his brother’s footsteps and will be going to the Air Force Academy in Colorado and wrestling on a full scholarship. Billingsley has won four state titles with Lowry while also making Academic All-State.

Andy Mendoza will attend Simpson University in Redding, California to join the golf team. Mendoza has helped the Buckaroos to two state championships (2012-13), a runner-up title in 2014, and will be named MVP on this year’s team.

Shelby Mckinnon has signed with College of Southern Idaho (CSI) in Twin Falls, Idaho, and will be receiving a full-ride scholarship to play for their softball program. Mckinnon is a 4-time all-state catcher and 4-time state champion in weightlifting.

Kylee McClellan has played four years of varsity basketball and three years of varsity softball, two of which she was captain, and has signed to play softball for Clark College in Vancouver, Washington

Both Sarah Smith and Luke Logan will attend CSI to join the rodeo team.

Jazmine Marchand signed with the Feather River Eagles in Quincy, California to continue her basketball career and fellow teammate Alyssa Jones will be playing for Lassen Community College in Susanville, California.

Chelsea Baker recently tried out for the University of Nevada, Reno cheer squad and has received a spot and will be seen on the sidelines of next year’s Wolf Pack football games.

Felipe Moreno will also attend college on a football scholarship as a defensive tackle. Averaging 5.7 tackles this past season, Moreno hopes to successfully continue his career at Eastern Oregon University alongside Cardenas.

Ryan Rasmussen will be attending Grand Canyon University on a cheerleading scholarship.

Many struggle to balance high school, friends, sports, employment, and everyday life. These seniors are going above and beyond to balance growing up, college, training, and sports.
