Rachel Metzker is a hard-working student in Ms. Julia Tolpholm’s Art 2 class and has been chosen for Performer of the Issue by Topholm herself.
“Rachel is a creative, hardworking and determined artist. She pushes herself to go beyond project requirements and looks to improve with every piece,” said Topholm.
Metzker is very involved in the performing arts. She participates in Art 2, Swing Choir and Drama. Although she is not in Art Club, she is really striving for the club next year next year. She also looks forward to creating more art pieces and developing a new favorite piece.
“I really enjoy art. It’s interesting and there are so many different forms of it. That’s why I do Choir, Art and Drama,” said Metzker.
Metzker looks to add more activities in the future.
“Unfortunately I am not in Art Club this year but I plan on participating in the club next year. It looks really fun and interesting,” said Metzker.
Rachel has created over 80 art pieces and really admires her Melting Castle piece.

Without any real plans after high school, she plans on leaving Winnemucca to further her art abilities in Portland, Oregon. Rachel doesn’t know what’s in store for her for the years to come and doesn’t know what Portland has to offer either. But she believes that it will “be an adventure she is willing to try out.”
“I just want to experience something new. Nevada just isn’t for me,” said Metzker. “I really feel that if my surroundings are creative then that’s the way I’m going to think, and Portland is where I think I’ll find what I’m looking for.”
