Fake News: Lowry brings back JV and freshman lettering

After many complaints from parents that the freshman and JV athletes aren’t being appreciated as much as the varsity level athletes, the faculty and staff have come to a conclusion and decided to bring back lettering at all levels in athletics.

“The freshman and JV players are intense athletes and deserve recognition. Even if we don’t have the money, we are spending the little bit of money we do have on the underclassmen,” said Athletic Director Tim Connors.

Many parents are concerned for their athletes.

“My child feels like they aren’t important and that is Lowry’s fault. They need something small to show that they have participated and put in just as much time as the varsity athletes,” said a distressed parent.

As many opinions are expressed, some students disagree with the school’s choice.

“The athletic program is wasting money on a letter that is irrelevant. The underclassmen can wait until they are on a varsity sport to receive a letter. The school can use their money more wisely. They could buy an air conditioner for the gym, or more equipment to help us be better athletes and win more championships,” said upperclassman Julian Arraga.

Although some students disagree, many agree with the school’s choice.

“I think it’s a great way to help keep underclassmen involved. If I hadn’t received my freshman letter I might’ve considered quitting. Receiving an award at the end of the season shows that our athletic program appreciates me and encourages me to continue working for something,” said freshman Kelly Ziegler.

Lowry is hoping to boost the egos of all freshman and sophomore athletes. After all of the hard work and dedication. Plus, everyone wants a JV and freshman letter on their letterman jackets.
