Baseball season has finally arrived throughout America and with it, the Lowry baseball team is getting ready for a big season.
The team lost nine seniors to graduation last year. Of course, it will be challenging to replace that many players, but the senior leadership and new faces to the team should be up to the task.
Donovan Brumm, a senior captain believes that defense is the team’s strongest attribute this season and says that is what should carry them in their games.
“Our strongest point is definitely defense, we are pretty good at fielding and catching as well as getting the ball between bases quickly,” said Brumm.
While the team is set defensively, the problems are coming from the other facet of the game, offense.
“Our hitting hasn’t been the best this season and that is probably our biggest weakness,” explained Brumm.
In high school sports, the emphasis is put on winning games, which is why it is no surprise that the team’s main focus is simply winning.
“This season we are just focused on winning as many games as possible in order to hopefully make the playoffs,” said Brumm.
While this year’s team may not have the big names of last year they are still capable of getting better and making a run in the playoffs. There’s one simple way to get better, practice.
“We need to work on our hitting and our pitching in order to get better,” said Brumm.
The baseball team is looking to put out a strong effort this year and push their way into the playoffs.
