Lowry’s varsity boys soccer team played against South Tahoe at Regionals on November 5. Lowry played an unpredictable game against South Tahoe and lost, 6-3.

“The game did not go according to our game plan. The first 10 minutes were spectacular, we were up 1-0, and we could have had two more goals with a little bit of luck. However, as soon as South Tahoe scored, we came out of our game plan and reverted to a long passing game, which was not what we were looking to do,” said coach Steve Swanson.

He continued, “The game was extremely rough, which I doubt anyone was surprised by, and made it a very fun game to watch. It was not really any more excessive than you would expect in a Bucks – Vikings grudge match.”

Senior Jesus Escobedo added to the aggression during the game.

“We played a rough, physical game. The conditions we played in definitely factored into the game, but we still managed to do the best job we could,” said Escobedo.

With a game featuring belligerence, it is not surprising there were different cards given out to both teams.

“South Tahoe did receive several yellow cards, and one player received a second yellow card for mouthing off, which earned him a red. Immortal [Ariel Gallardo-Gutierrez] also received a red card for going through the back of a South Tahoe player. In the context of the game, it should have been a yellow card, but that is the official’s judgment call,” stated Swanson.

In the end, Escobedo was proud of how he played the final soccer game of his high school career.

“I can honestly say I’m proud of the way I played my last soccer game, scoring my last goal for Lowry hit me hard after the game,” said Escobedo.

Swanson was impressed by his varsity soccer team this season.

“The team played pretty good this season, exceeding my expectations. They always played extremely hard, which is what I care about the most. However, there were times in the second half of the season, when we followed the short passing game plane, when they played brilliantly. The South Tahoe and Sparks games were notable examples of tremendous play,” said Swanson.
