Lowry Wrestling took a hard defeat on January 6 and 7 in the Sparks Invitational, only coming out with 45 points to put them in 14th place to end the tournament. Lowry brought their JV wrestling team to the tournament to give them a feel for the competition.
Wrestler Bryan Day came out fourth in his 132 weight class and also scored 18 team points to put him in the lead for Lowry in the tournament. Day lost to Jayce Leyva of Pershing County in the third-place match. Day is now 23-8 for the season.
Trent McKellips placed sixth in the Sparks Invitational and scored 8 team points for Lowry in his 195 weight class. McKellips lost in the fifth-place match to Freddy Lopez of Tonopah to put him in sixth place.
McKellips feels the team can improve and needs to work on finishing matches.

“I feel like we could have done a lot better in this tournament. As a team, we need to finish matches that we are winning and just score in general,” said McKellips.
McKellips also mentions he feels that the team is doing well but still has work to do.
“The season is going okay, but I know the team could do better and start to put more points on the board,” said McKellips.
Lowry Wrestling heads to Spring Creek on January 13 to wrestle in the Spring Creek Invitational.
