On the week of May 10-12, varsity softball traveled to Churchill County in Fallon, Nevada, for zone. The last time the Bucks went to state was in 2012.
According to sophomore Sierra Maestrejuan, they went out a gave it their all.
“It was worth it because we got the chance to go and play at state,” said Maestrejuan. “Our Fernley game was definitely the best and most exciting.”
The girls lost their first game in the neutral playoffs against Churchill County, 20-10.
They came back the next day and beat Elko, 11-1.
Lowry had another win against Dayton that same day with a close score of 5-4.
The last day of zone, Lowry started with a win against Fernley, 6-4, to get to the championship game. However, the Lady Bucks finished with a loss to the Greenwave again, 14-2.
Senior Kyllie Sappington started the momentum off with a solo home run and a diving catch to get an out in the last inning.
“I think we can do great if we play together with a lot of energy,” said Maestrejuan.
Along with Lowry, Fallon advanced to state as well. The Bucks will be the number two seed. They will be playing against Boulder City on the first day.
The varsity softball team will be heading to Reno on May 17. State will last three days.
