The Brand says goodbye to Maclyn, Weston, Gavin, and Kyle

This year, there are four seniors in The Brand: Maclyn Crnkovich, Weston Irons, Gavin Swanson, and Kyle Schultz, and they surely will be missed. If it weren’t them, The Brand would be even more of a struggle to produce.

Maclyn Crnkovich has been in The Brand for two years, and this year she became the Opinions Editor. Crnkovich also participates in high school rodeo, FFA, and leadership.

Crnkovich said, “The Brand has been a great experience for me. Even though I’ve only been in it for a year and a half, Espy and I have really bonded and grown close together. I even have my own nickname, Miss Salty 2016.”

Weston Irons has been in The Brand for all four years and is currently a Managing Editor and the Sports Editor. Irons has been a varsity soccer player for all four of his years in high school. During the spring, Irons spends his weekends managing the baseball team.

Irons said, “I’m really glad I made the decision to take The Brand four years ago. It’s taught me more about the ‘real world’ than any other class. It has been rough at times, but I only have myself to blame for that. I’m thankful to have gotten to meet many people through this class, and I’m really going to miss it.”

This year was Gavin Swanson’s first year as a part of The Brand. While this was his first year, he had the responsibility of being the Copy Editor. Swanson played soccer for three years and managed during his senior year. He is a part of the National Honor Society and has been a part of Teen Court.

Swanson explained that he has learned a lot this year in The Brand.

“Through my experience in The Brand, I was able to learn about interesting topics, like the controversy behind football concussions and student rights, and I was given a platform to express my own thoughts and inform the general public on the issues that drive parts of our lives every day. My time at The Brand was probably the most useful and self-fulfilling experience I’ve had at Lowry.”

This year is also Kyle Schultz’s first year in The Brand, and he is the Online Editor and does a lot of the work for The Brand’s website. Schultz played soccer for three years, basketball for one year, and baseball for all four years. He is also a member of the National Honor Society.

He said, “The Brand was a great experience, and it helped me realize how much work goes into maintaining a website and writing a newspaper.”
