Adding more safety regulations in schools

Lately, more people are becoming concerned with the safety of students in schools. With tragic events happening more often around the country, schools may be considering taking more action and responsibility when it comes to protecting students. However, there comes a point where protecting our schools comes to imprisoning or overprotecting students.

Certain actions are necessary in schools like drills in case of emergencies. On the other hand, officials are somewhat overreacting to safety issues. Locking down schools could result in them becoming more like a prison than a fun learning places. Fences and gates keep students in instead of keeping dangers out. Security and locked doors can make students feel imprisoned. It also makes students feel like school should make them think as if they are being put there as a punishment. Having a good education and getting to go to school has always been a privilege, but keeping students locked up in a school would send the message that school is something that is forced upon students.

Safety issues being taken at schools have become a little bit extreme. Even though safety issues have become more noticeable lately due to the media, there comes a point where protection goes too far into having schools become like a prison instead of an exciting learning place.
