And the Oscar goes to

With all the amazing films that graced 2014, the people at the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences will have a difficult time determining the winners of the 86th Annual Academy Awards. Chris Hemsworth and Cheryl Boone Isaacs announced on Thursday, January 16, that actresses, directors, screenwriters, and more will be honored at this year’s ceremony. But, before the bevy of stars glide across the red carpet, let’s take a crack at predicting this year’s winners.

For Best Picture, I am going to give the Oscar to “American Hustle”. It’s Batman, Katniss, Giselle, and everyone’s favorite guy from “The Hangover”? What more could one ask for? Superb directing, along with a great screenplay, and fantastic performances from the entire cast wrapped into one will no doubt grant “American Hustle” the win this year.

Best Actress has to be America’s sweetheart, Sandra Bullock. Probably traumatizing millions of little children from the NASA space program, “Gravity” was a blockbuster hit. Bullock gave a stellar performance as Dr. Ryan Stone alongside George Clooney, who portrayed veteran astronaut, Matt Kowalski. The two actors took audiences on a ride in this thriller, set in the black emptiness of space.

The best Actor definitely goes to Leonardo DiCaprio, because he deserves it. Did you see “The Wolf of Wall Street” or “The Great Gatsby” for that matter? There is no question that the man is a good actor.

The award for Best Supporting Actress is destined for the most down-to-earth performer in Hollywood, Miss Jennifer Lawrence. Her performance in “American Hustle” as Rosalyn Rosenfeld, the unpredictable wife of Irving Rosenfeld (Christian Bale), will be the source of her second Oscar win after receiving an Academy Award for her performance in “Silver Linings Playbook”.

For Best Actor in A Supporting Role, I have to give it to the underdog, Jonah Hill. By portraying Donnie Azoff, the partner of a stockbroker engaged in a far-reaching securities fraud, Hill has won his second Academy Award nomination.

The winners will be officially announced on Sunday, March 2, 2014. The ceremony hosted by comedian Ellen DeGeneres will be held in at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood. This will be DeGeneres’ second time hosting the show and the laughs will not be in short supply with her in charge. Make sure to tune in, as the Oscars broadcast live on ABC starting at 8:30 p.m. EST.
