Lowry’s junior class along with their class advisers are in charge of the annual Project Santa/Virtual Angel Tree. The project helps give back to children in the community so they can have a great Christmas. The Angel tree works by children filling out a form with a read, want, and need. When someone picks one of the children they purchase a book, a toy, and clothes or whatever they list on the form. This year there are 350 children signed up. Laura Mercado is one of the junior class advisors and she explains who the community is gifting to.

“Children in Project Santa come from low-income families,” said Mercado. “If a family qualifies, then all of their children, from birth to 18, will go on the list to be sponsored.”

Kids that are less privileged and need more support are able to get help with their Christmas. Christmas is the season of giving and these children are appreciative to the gifts they receive. The gifts that are purchased are sent to Les Schwab by Thursday, December 5, 2024. This gives them enough time to wrap up the gifts and sort them out before December 13.

“Presents will be distributed on December 14,” said Mercado. “If a family cannot come in during that time, gifts are sent to the children’s schools the following week, right before Christmas.”

This project really helps out the kids in the community. Everyone deserves a gift during the Christmas season and to help one of these children out means a lot to not only them but their families as well.
