Ms. Julia Topholm, an art teacher at Lowry, chose one of her students from her Advanced Art class as Student of the Week; junior, Arianna Ruiz.

“She is extremely self-motivated with a creative vision and she is not afraid to challenge herself to try new techniques,” Topholm said. “Her work always showcases the highest quality of craftsmanship and she truly takes pride in her work.”

Arianna Ruiz says she doesn’t tend to like her work and feels it isn’t the best, so she was surprised to win Student of the Week.

“I’m excited to get this award because sometimes I don’t feel the best about the work I do and I tend to judge myself pretty harshly, so to see that I’m actually doing alright is really relieving,” said Ruiz.

Arianna’s work clearly showcases the passion she has for art, and that she is really dedicated to her work.

“I love art both the class and in general,” Ruiz said. “I think it is a great way for people to express themselves and I find that it is something that really helps me focus when my brain is scattered.”
