The Lowry JV baseball team will look to build on the successful season they had last year. With new coaches and several talented freshman and sophomores, the team is very optimistic about having a successful season.

The team consists of returners Lane Mentaberry, Damon Miller, Tyler Riddle, Troy Hardy, Christian Dawson, Aaron Nelson, Dusty Bryan, and Tytin “House” Johnson. Also joining the team this year are freshmen Christian Gray, Colin Doyle, Luis Cardenas, Marquess Jones, Colton Lacy, Austin Jenkins, Thomas Schwartz, and Garrett Naveran.

“Our team chemistry is great! We pick each other up when they make a bad play and we have a lot of fun on the field,” said freshman Colin Doyle.

The new coaches this season are Clay Sagers and James Williams who are in their first year at Lowry, both teaching and coaching.

The JV schedule started with the team playing four games against 4A teams from the Reno area during their first weekend of play (McQueen twice, Douglas, and Reno).

“We hope to come back from the tough 4A Reno tournament and win some good [errorless] 3A games,” said Doyle.

They will also participate in the cross-over games when they travel to Fallon to take on the Greenwave, the Fernley Vaqueros, and the Dayton Dust Devils. The remainder of their schedule is composed of games against West Wendover, Elko, Spring Creek, Yerington, and Wells.

“In practice we’ve been working really hard on hitting and just the basic ground balls and pop flies,” said Doyle.
