The music students have been working extremely hard this year, which is paying off. Three of the band students got on to the All-State band on November 18 and all of the honor choir students performed at a concert in Elko, Nevada.
Martin Dockter, Caleb Hales and Tanner Hatch auditions for All State band on November 13. Dockter was selected as the 7th chair and was the only one to get in as a trumpet player in Northern Nevada.
Students received audition material a few months in advance and attended auditions in Reno. The students performed the audition material which as sent to judges to do chair placements.
“I’m thrilled that I got into All-State,” said Dockter. “This is a really big deal in the rural areas because we don’t have the same resources available to us that the larger schools in Southern Nevada do.”
On November 18 and 19, 14 students attended the Honor Choir in Elko. Honor Choir is audition based so students must audition to get in. The students performed with attendees from schools in Northern Nevada on November 19 under guest conductor Dr. Richard Hutton from Boise State University. Freshman Lilee Ham enjoyed the opportunity to perform in front of the public.
“Being able to sing in front of people that are interested,” said Ham.
Another freshman, Trinity Green, also enjoyed singing amongst a larger community.
“The director was pretty nice and the people there were also nice,” said Trinity Green.
They sang a collection of songs but Junior, Hannah Simpson, favored one in particular.
“‘You Can Tell the World’ because we blended well together on that song,” said Simpson.
Hannah Simpson, Adelyn Quirarte, Hailey Darlington, Malyna Roberts, Andrea Zavala, Trinity Green, Lola Jephson, Lilee Ham, Aria Casteel, Skyler Paulsen, Robert Cassady, Corbin Berezay, Tanner Hatch, and Martin Dockter attended.
