The Lowry cross country team raced against Reed, made many personal records, and improved their times on the course from last year. The runners did an exceptional job running on the challenging course while running against opponents from Division 1 schools.
“We ran at Reed today. It’s a difficult course, and it’s raced around Shadow Mountain. You have to actually run up the mountain. We were competing against Division 1 schools, which are the big schools in Reno. Our team performed very well; out of 17 kids, we had nine set personal records,” stated Coach Kitty Norcutt.
Last year, junior Omar Aranjo ran a 25:57 at Reed. This year he had a time of 19:58. He shaved about six minutes, which is incredible.
Freshman Rebecca Kuskie did an outstanding job in the race. She placed first in the junior varsity race with a time of 22:38.
“Running is a difficult sport, but it’s something you have to do. It’s not for everybody,” said Rebecca Kuskie.
Cross country is a sport about improving oneself rather than having an incredibly fast time, and the cross country team has many personal victories this year. Their next meet will be at the Winnemucca golf course on October 9.
