For their first play, Drama and Stagecraft dived into a complex story of best friends. “Dr. Experimentor and the League of Evil” took place on November 4, 5, and 6.
Ethan Montenegro was excited about performing his first play and has enjoyed working with stagecraft to complete the props, especially the flats.
“The flats because it is painting and it is the most creative thing that happens and it is just fun to work on it,” said Montenegro.
Montenegro enjoyed practicing the scenes and setting up the play and was ready for the audience’s reactions.
“It’s pretty fun like going through it but I feel like it would be more fun and enjoyable when there are people reacting to what is going on the stage,” said Montenegro.
This play follows the story of an evil scientist who has to choose between the League of Evil and his best friend.
“It’s about an evil scientist and he is part of a league of evil and they want him to defeat a superhero but he has never defeated a superhero,” said Ms. Kelly Bales. “The problem is that his superhero is also his best friend.”
The director, Bales, has fun with the play especially since it is unlike anything they have done before.
“I think it’s really fun,” said Bales. “It’s different from any play we have done before and we have never done a superhero supervillain play and it’s a lot of fun. It’s a lot different from the other plays we’ve ever done and it’s been a little bit out of my comfort so it’s a lot of fun.”
Bales enjoys the special effects involved with the play including lights and shadows.
“I like the scenes that have the special effects where we are turning off the lights and turning them back on again and different things are happening while the lights are off,” said Bales. “There is this one scene where we do shadow puppets and their shadow play and that’s a lot of fun too.”
Shelby Lewis was excited to introduce the characters and have fun as the scene developed with characters and props.
“I’m most excited about the robot creation scene and training them,” said Lewis. “It’s a really fun interactive scene and it’s a great way to meet the characters and have fun.”
Lewis thinks the play gives out a great message to the audience to be yourself and not change who you are just to be accepted by others.
“I really like the concept of the play,” said Lewis. “It sends a really great message to the kids: never try to fit in with the cool kids, be yourself, be you.”
Adelyn Quirarte was ready to have fun with her character and hoped to get a character that brought the fun to the story adding further excitement to the climax.
“I hoped to get Agnes Anarchy because her sarcastic responses and attitude seemed really fun,” said Quirarte. “I’m most excited about the climax of the play because of the super bizarre plot twist.”
Quirarte acknowledged the hard work of Stagecraft students who make the unique play more fun and interesting.
“I think the concept of the play is very interesting and fun,” said Quirate. “It’s silly and unique. A lot of work goes into the props due to the fact that they are all handmade. All of the stagecraft is very talented.”
The play started at 7:00 pm and the prices for adults were $5 and prices for students were only $3.
