Family, Career and Community Leaders of America is a nonprofit organization for teenage boys and girls through grade 12. At Lowry, we have a small yet mighty chapter.

the group’s advisors are Mrs. Killion and Mrs. Rorex. In March, a group of seven from Lowry traveled to Reno, Nevada for the FCCLA State Leadership Conference. The conference included judging for multiple events, general sessions for all of Nevada’s members, workshops, and great socials.

Lowry’s girls placed in each of their events, every student competing in at least one competition. For the State Banner (worked on by Macie Mavity, Dara Woolever, and Chelsea Hammond) we won a Silver medal. In the Non Apparel/Quilt competition MaElena Sanchez and Dara Woolever both took Gold medals while Angela Lausch and Chelsea Hammond came home with Silver Medals. In the Early Childhood Education competition, Macie Mavity and Angela Lausch earned Bronze Medals. For Interior Design, MaElena Sanchez won a Bronze medal. Jessica Partee took a Silver Medal and qualified to go to the National Competition in Orlando, Florida for Fashion Design. Rebekah Dorris won a Gold medal in Job Interview, and Silver in Life Event Planning, qualifying in both events to compete at the National Competition in Florida, as well.

The group fundraised for the State Conference by selling pumpkin bars and selling flowers for Valentine’s Day. Right now, Jessica and Rebekah are looking for fundraising and donations to afford to go compete in Orlando, representing Nevada in each of their competitions. Any high school students interested in joining FCCLA, please talk to Mrs. Rorex, Mrs. Killion, or any of the members. They would be happy to have some new members.
