Freshman girls end season undefeated at 20-0

The freshman girl’s basketball team recently wrapped up a perfect 20-0 season. Their dedication and gratitude towards the sport showed in their efforts on and off the court.

Would like one more player quote here about the importance of perfection.

Coach Larry Renteria loved his team for their dedication and focus on the sport.

“We did not let outside distractions hinder our performance,” said Renteria. “For two hours a day, we put the distractions aside, and we focused on basketball. When game time hit, we focused on the game, and with the work ethic, our focus, and commitment to improve, we were able to have a great season.”

Renteria believes that by putting their focus towards what they could control, everything else would fall into place.

“We couldn’t control the height of the other teams, the talent the other teams brought, the referees, or whatever else the world threw at us,” said Renteria. “What we could control was ourselves, we could control our effort, we could control practice,  we could control our individual skills, we could control the details of our game plan, we could control how outside distractions influenced us, and by taking control of ourselves, we could take control of any given situation”.

Makinley Hislop believes that the most memorable memories that brought the team together were the Reno trips.

“Our season was fun,” said Hislop. “We got to play a lot of games in Reno, and it was fun shopping after”.

In addition, Maite Bengochea loved Reno trips because of the bond they brought.

“I would say my favorite memory this season was traveling and Reno trips,” said Bengochea. “Going to the arcade right before the curfew was always a favorite”.

With one memorable season, the season brought many lessons for the girls.

“One thing I learned this season is you can do anything you put your mind to,” said Bengochea.
