JV baseball is well underway as their season has only three more weeks left. This past weekend they dropped a two-game series to Fallon 9-7, 11-1. They are now 4-9 in league.

So far this season the Bucks have battled as each weekend they fight for a win in the series. They have gone 0-2 with Elko, 1-1 with Wells, 1-1 with Dayton, 0-3 with South Tahoe, and 0-2 with Fallon.

Sophomore catcher Kyle Young knows the team can perform but realizes it is going to take some more hard work.

“We played decent but we need to work on the little things so we can win these close games. The first game was great, we just couldn’t string hits together and in the second game, their defense was in the right places, and made tough plays. As far as the season goes, I think and give the rest of the teams a run for their money,” said Young.

Fellow sophomore Michael Rangel agrees with Young and believes the team can win these big upcoming games as long as they get some things in check.

“We have a good team, we just have to sharpen up as a unit. Individually, we bring unique attributes to the table, we just have to find a way to interweave these qualities to form a real team. In the first game, we were down 4-0 in the first inning and we battled back. But after a few errors and scoreless innings, we lost. In the second game, we quite literally dropped the ball. We missed routine fly balls and simple things so we were ten-runned. If we learn to buffer out these small mistakes, we will win these last few games,” concluded Rangel.

The Bucks still have to face off against Lovelock, Truckee, Spring Creek, and Fernley. The team is hoping to come together and beat Lovelock as they go head-to-head on their home field.
