Our wrestling team is one of the best in the state and has won a multitude of state titles. Kruz Gomez is a sophomore this year and has been a lowry wrestler for two years. His coaches, Brant Corak and John Brooks picked him as the athlete of the week for his hard work and dedication.

Coach Brooks is confident in Gomez’s ability to win. He has a great physical ability.

“If the match is close, there’s a good chance that Kruz will win the match,” said Brooks. “Kruz’s hard work and determination always pay off.”

Gomez has been wrestling since his childhood. His father was a state champion during his high school years, and Gomez wants to get his state title as well.

“I started wrestling at a very young age,” said Gomez. “My dad was a state champion and taught me everything I know. He is my biggest supporter, and I hope to win at state this year just like he did.”

Coach Corak is proud of how far Gomez has come in his game. Even though it is only his second year of wrestling for Lowry, he has shown why he deserves to win state.

“He is just a sophomore, so he is just learning the mental part of the game,” said Corak, “but physically, he is very gifted.”

Gomez’s goal this year is to win at state. He is training harder than ever to accomplish his goal as quickly as possible.

“I think I have come out with more wins so far this year and hope to win at state this year,” said Gomez. “Coach Corak and Coach Brooks have helped me improve this year, and I am very grateful for that.”
