Lowry’s varsity girls had a battle on their hands, to say the least on February 20. That was the week of zone, Lowry played Fallon and everything boiled down to the last ten seconds of the game. During that time sophomore Alyssa Kuskie hit a game-winning three-pointer to advance them closer to state.
“I remember shooting the shot and saw it go in, and I was thinking we just beat Fallon,” said Kuskie.
The girls went on to play the Faith Lutheran Crusaders on Friday, February 26. The game was very close until the fourth quarter. Each team exchanged baskets until the Crusaders went on a run. In the end, the final score was 44-35. And that was it for Lowry state was no longer possible.
With the season being over some of the girls reflected on their most memorable moment.
“Beating Fallon in the division title game and earning our third title,” said Hannah Hillyer.
“The greatest moment of the season would have to be when we beat Elko to go to state and beat Fallon to continue our streak,” said senior Jillian Albright.
“Definitely beating Fallon,” added Mckenna Jones.
It’s no surprise that beating Fallon was a real accomplishment, and that’s because the score was 26-0.
Despite losing the girls wouldn’t change a thing during the season.
“I wouldn’t. It was a great season to end my basketball career on. We worked hard all season and I am so proud of my teammates,” said senior Payton Naveran.
Now that the season is over the girls are looking to have another great season next year.
“We will miss our seniors very much but I think we will still be pretty strong and have a good team,” said Kenadee Jeppsen.
The girls team will be losing four seniors.
