Lady Bucks have high expectations

On February 27, 2010, with one second left on the clock, the Lowry girl’s basketball team could do nothing but watch as a lay-up by Spring Creek hung on the rim for a while before finally falling off. They had won a state championship for the first time since 2002.

Now going into this season, they are the ones with the expectations. They have the target on their back for the first time in years.

Head coach Jack Smith, who is assisted by Jo McClellan and Katy Schwartz said, “We have to stay humble and confident and cocky at the same time, and take game by game and take this preseason as a glorified practice for league.”

A league that has seen some major changes with the realignment, but Spring Creek should be expected to bring Lowry its toughest competition once again.

According to Smith, this year is really about improving every game and try to win each game without looking too far ahead.

Lowry returns seven players from last years’ team and brings in five girls who are new to the varsity level. The players are, Emelia Legarza, Jenae Neu, Rachelle Dennis, Julia Duffurrena, Madi Gonzales, Angie Herrera, Betsy Guererro, Taylor Johnson, Hana Etcheverry, Savannah Ingram, Ere Higbee, and Charlotte Bernard.
