Lowry girls golf staying high in league standings

The Lowry girls golf team have overcome its dilemmas and jumped right into third place in the league standings.

The Buckaroos started the season with only three players which were not enough to be a team. After a few weeks they added three new players “who have never touched a golf club before,” said coach Chelsea Mendiola.

“The very first day of practice we didn’t know what to expect,” said Mendiola.

Lowry’s new players and veterans have come together as a team and are getting better each day. Twice they have finished in third place and once they have finished in second place.

The Buckaroos took third place in Elko on Wednesday, September 15 shooting a 424 as a team, just 6 strokes behind Spring Creek. Sophomore Cortney Kieser led the team with a 93, and sister, junior Kasey Kieser, was close behind her with a 95. Other players who teed off were senior Allison Carlo who shot a 105 along with freshmen Hana Haun and senior Maddie Burgher who both shot a 131 and sophomore Bailey Laird who shot a 163.

“Right now we are right where we need to be,” said Mendiola.

Lowry’s next match will be at Spring Creek September 23 at 10 a.m.
