The Lowry High School Robotics Club has had an eventful and promising year. Under the guidance of advisor Scott Santos, the team comprises 17 dedicated members who have been diligently preparing for their inaugural competitions. With Santos to guide members into the competitive arena.
“I started robotics because I like the technology part, and it is really exciting to see how the robot works and what is wrong,” said Annabelle McClure.
A significant highlight of the season was hosting the “VRC Battle in the Mucc 2024” on January 11, 2025, in the New Gym at Lowry High School. The event commenced with check-ins at 8 a.m., followed by the competition at 9 a.m. This event provided the team with invaluable experience in organizing and participating in a competitive setting.
The team set its sights on the Nevada VEX V5 Robotics Competition State Championship. This prestigious event offered an opportunity to qualify for the 2025 VEX Robotics World Championship, with categories such as Excellence Award, Tournament Champions, and Robot Skills Champion paving the way for advancement.
“In the state game, it was close, but we pushed through and got far,” said Johnny Lozano.
The team’s dedication and hard work throughout the year have positioned them as strong contenders for these accolades.
One standout achievement from the season was the performance of Team 89445B. With an impressive record of 5-0, they were ranked first through 38 of 72 qualification matches at the state championship. Caleb Sanders and Johnny Lozano-Chavez are the team members of 89445B that qualified for the 2025 VEX World Championships.
Santos is adding the members of 89445A to the team for Worlds and will be taking them to Dallas as well. Those students include Caleb Hales, Tanner Hatch, Mia Preciado, and Jonathan Meza Barajas.
