On April 10, some of Lowry’s most skilled students traveled to Reno to compete in various different events at the Skills USA. competition. The team brought back three gold medals, three silver medals, and four bronze medals.
In the Power Equipment Technology competition, Lowry swept the podium. Alex Weidemann came home with the gold, Hunter Albisu took silver, and Jace Aberasturi took home the bronze.
Lowry students also swept the podium in the carpentry competition. Joel Loya came home with the gold, Raymond Orzech placed second with silver, and Luis Duarte took the bronze medal.
Three students also placed high in the welding fabrication competition. Jimmy Rackley took the bronze while Dillon Patterson placed fourth and Audrey VanBuren placed fifth.
Seth Duncan was the only Lowry student competing in the welding sculpture competition and he took home the silver medal.
Crystal Raffath took home the gold in electrical and Jacob Frazier placed third for the bronze.
Junior Dillon Patterson who competed in welding fabrication had a great time at skills with his team.
“Skills USA week was a great week with great friends in Reno to celebrate all of our achievements to get to that point. Everyone tried to put in their best effort to show the amount of skill our school can produce,” said Patterson. “As a welder on the fabrications team, I noticed that small mistakes can make or break your chance of winning. Many of our students medaled and we have three from Lowry going to nationals to represent the state of Nevada.”
Alex Weidemann, Joel Loya, and Crystal Raffath have moved on to nationals in each of their events which will take place June 25-30 in Louisville, Kentucky.
