Lowry hosts track meet

On Saturday, May 5, Lowry played host to 17 schools throughout northern Nevada for the Lowry Invitational. The teams were looking to perfect the details as they prepare for the regional championships. Lowry had the opportunity to take a look at six of the eight Northern 3A schools and they are hoping that will be an advantage when they head into the postseason.

The Lady Bucks finished in fourth place, behind Elko, Spring Creek, and Churchill County. While the boy’s team finished in seventh place. The top three finishers were Churchill County, Elko, and Rite of Passage.

Robert Stepper was the only individual first-place finisher for Lowry, winning the high jump by clearing six feet. He also placed 12th in the long jump. Other Top-Ten finishers include Sergio Castaneda (fifth in shot put and eighth in discus), Taylor Martin (sixth in discus and ninth in shot put), Kevin Boyle (fourth in the pole vault and sixth in high jump), and Matt Jones (eighth in long jump).

The Lady Bucks also had several Top-Ten finishers: Marion House (third in 3,200 meters and seventh in 1,600 meters), Jasmin Landa (third in shot put), Kim Garcia (eighth in shot put), Chandra Wanner (ninth in discus), Rachel Sigurdson (third in pole vault and sixth in high jump), Raven Black (fourth in high jump and tenth in pole vault), Meg Montero (fifth in 100 meters), Taylor LaTray (fifth in 400 meters), Alex Schirrick (sixth in 100 and 200 meters), Auri Criddle (tenth in 200 meters), and Monique Rodriguez (seventh in the 100 meters).

The Bucks will travel to Fallon on May 11 and 12 for the Northern 3A Regional Championships.
